Nov 06 - Olive Tasting Event At The Instituto Cervantes
An olive tasting event took place recently at the Instituto Cervantes in Gibraltar.
The entrepreneur Carlos Duarte, who in 1995 founded the Gibraltar-based company Rock Olives Limited, presented the event.
During the tasting, Mr Duarte explained the process of preparing and seasoning six different types of olives: Gordal, Aloreña de Málaga, Verdial de Sevilla, Manzanilla Fina, Picual de Jaén and the Lechín from the Sierra de Cádiz.
Mr Duarte also introduced those attending to other traditional food products from the region like olive oil, dried fruit and spices.
Mr Duarte explained that he founded Rock Olives Limited in response to an increase in demand from Gibraltar.
"There was no business like the one I had, and many customers were coming from Gibraltar to my stall in La Linea. I therefore thought it was the right time to offer my products in Gibraltar," he said.
Rock Olives Limited has a stall in the public market right next to Fish Market Lane.
