Dec 02 - MICE Workshop Provides Platform for Local Businesses
The Gibraltar Tourist Board today hosted a workshop targeting the UK conference buyer and planner market in an effort to broaden the Rock’s relevance in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing and Exhibitions (MICE) industry.
Gibraltar’s aspirations to become a prominent destination for MICE were highlighted with the opening of the Sunborn floating hotel early this year, with much interest coming from the industry in using the flotel as a location to host conferences and meetings. Today’s workshop was aimed at the local tourism and hospitality sector, with hotels, restaurants, transport, catering and travel firms present. Held in the Airport’s Wessex Lounge the headlining speaker was Steve Lewis, editor of ‘Meetings and Incentive Travel Magazine’.
Local businesses present at the event were able to interact with the experts and showcase the range of products, facilities and services on offer on the Rock.
Commenting on the matter, Minister for Tourism Neil Costa noted that the workshop provided ‘valuable advice for local businesses to fine tune their product to attract this market.’
He added, ‘the Government is happy to have initiated yet another activity that confirms its commitment to the development of this important niche market in the tourism industry and provide even more opportunities to attract business to Gibraltar.’
