Dec 04 – Annual Art Competition For Young Artists

Gibraltar Cultural Services, on behalf of the Ministry for Culture, informs local artists of the annual Art Competition for Young Artists that will be held in February 2015. Closing date for receipt of entries is 6pm on Friday 20th February 2015.

The competition is open to Gibraltarians and residents of Gibraltar attending school in years 9 to 13 (or College equivalent), as well as to young Gibraltarian artists aged up to 24 years old as at 2nd March 2015. Works must be original and not previously entered competitively, with the exception of non-winning entries in the 2014 Spring Art Competition and 2014 International Art Competition.

Gibraltar Cultural Services is pleased to announce that rules of entry for this competition have been amended to allow for unframed artworks to be accepted and for artists to be allowed to enter more works. The changes to the rules have come about as a result of suggestions made by the local art teachers. It is thought that this will enable more young artists to take part in the competition with more works but without the expense of framing. Artists may submit a maximum of three artworks and two sculptures. All entries will be exhibited at the John Mackintosh Hall from the 3rd to 13th March 2015.

Prizes to be awarded are:

1st Prize The Ministry of Culture Prize * £1,000

2nd Prize The Aquagib Award * £500

Additionally, there will be awards of £500 each, kindly donated by the Alwani Foundation, for the best entry in each of the following age groups:

  1. School Years 9 to 11 *
  2. School Years 12 to 13 *

* All the artworks above will become the property of the Ministry of Culture.
