Feb 05 - KPMG Appoints New Head Of Indirect Tax

Sandra Skuszka, Head of VAT Services at KPMG Gibraltar, has recently been appointed as Head of Indirect Tax for KPMG Islands Group, providing leadership to the indirect tax specialists in all of KPMG’s member firms in offshore jurisdictions.  KPMG Islands Group is a regional network of KPMG member firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services with more than 2,000 professionals working together to deliver value in Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Malta, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, and the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Sandra trained with Isle of Man Customs and Excise before joining KPMG in 2007, and took up her current role as Head of VAT Services in 2011.

Sandra has recently assisted KPMG Bahamas with the provision of services to the government and clients in respect of the introduction of VAT in the Bahamas. There, she was responsible for advising the government on the implications of VAT legislation prior to implementation and assisting them with the formation of a comprehensive VAT policy.  Sandra was also instrumental in writing the government’s comprehensive guidance notices for specific industries.

As more Islands are introducing or considering introducing indirect taxes such as VAT and GST, or Goods and Services Tax, KPMG has recognised the advantages of providing a co-ordinated approach and a pooling of expertise. It is Sandra’s global experience, in particular, that has led to this recent appointment. She regularly works for clients and with KPMG teams in other offshore locations, and has recently completed a number of key client projects involving multiple jurisdictions.

Commenting on the appointment, Micky Swindale, Managing Director at KPMG Gibraltar stated: “KPMG is a global firm which offers a wide spectrum of services and employs the greatest talents in order to do so. It is our role as a firm not just to keep on top of the latest developments in financial services policy, but to proactively engage with and seek to shape those policies in the best interests of governments and jurisdictions, and the companies that operate within them. Sandra’s experience across multiple jurisdictions, coupled with her considerable expertise locally, mean she could not be better suited to the role and its responsibilities. I and the team here at KPMG would like to congratulate Sandra on her appointment and I have every faith in her ability to excel in this crucial position.”

Also commenting on her appointment, Sandra said: “KPMG has played a pivotal role in ensuring the consistency and proper implementation of regulatory and licensing programmes across multiple jurisdictions. It has done so by ensuring that open cooperation and communication are a priority, and I am very pleased to play a part in this process.  I look forward to ensuring a consistent approach across our tax advisory network and would like to thank KPMG for this exciting opportunity.”

KPMG’s local VAT offering, for which Sandra is responsible, provides advisory and compliance services to a wide range of industry sectors which include eGaming and digital currency, property acquisition, funds and financial services, insurance and associated service providers, yachts and aircraft, corporate service providers and manufacturing.
