Feb 20 - Bayside Students to Compete in UK Coding Challenge

A team of Bayside students have gone through to the final of the 2015 CyberCenturion Schools Challenge against stiff competition from schools across the UK.

CyberCenturion is the UK arm of the Cyber Patriot competition in the US, organised by Northrop Grumman. Northrop Grumman partnered with Cyber Security Challenge UK last summer to launch the competition in the UK for the first time. The competition is designed to inspire young people towards careers in cyber security and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), helping build a bigger UK cyber talent pool.

Over two weekends, Year 12 students Aaron Baw, Abdullah Shuja and Petr Zagura, Year 10 students Christopher Edwards and William Menez and Year 9 students Asadullah Shuja and Ben Sene were given a number of cybersecurity challenges and were awarded points for their attempts.

The teacher responsible for this initiative is Mr Stewart Harrison, the school's Head of Physics. The Final will take place in the UK on April 17^th at Bletchley Park. Commenting on the achievement Bayside Head Teacher Colin Skinner insisted that this was a ‘magnificent achievement and a wonderful opportunity for some of [their] most gifted students.’
