Mar 13 - Swedish Students Visit Gibraltar

swedish youth Sixteen college students and two teachers from the Falkenberg region in Halland, Sweden recently visited Gibraltar with the main aim being to study the social and working life of people in Gibraltar and in particular to enable the students to make contact with Gibraltarians who are actively involved in employment fields similar to their own or in which they have a particular interest.

As part of their itinerary they included a visit to the local youth club where the Gibraltar Youth Service organised a cultural food evening that involved both groups preparing the evening’s meal for all present. The aim of the evening was to promote dialogue and cultural exchanges whilst cooking and sharing a meal together. The evening saw a variety of Gibraltarian dishes including Calentita, “torta patata” and breaded chicken together with a traditional Swedish sandwich cake.

Stuart Malcom (the Swedish school teacher leading the group) has links with the Gibraltar Youth Service dating back to a youth exchange between Gibraltar and Falkenberg in 1998. Stuart is keen to continue his links with the Gibraltar Youth Service and it is intended to start planning a new exchange trip in the near future.
