Apr 20 - University Students Summer Jobs Details
The Government has announced that university students who are in receipt of a Government of Gibraltar scholarship are being offered the opportunity to enrol for a ‘summer job’ between 6 July and 28 August 2015 (or such earlier date as they may need to depart to university). The summer job scheme aims to consolidate and develop the skills learned at university through practical experience in the workplace.
Working hours will be from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm (four hours daily), without a lunch break, from Monday to Friday. Remuneration will be £123 per week (£6.15 per hour). These working hours are designed to enable students to gain valuable workplace experience whilst still enjoying their summer break from university studies.
The summer-jobs scheme employed 354 students throughout July and August 2014, in 53 government departments. The most popular departments were the GHA (employing 49 students), the Care Agency (employing 29 students) and the Sports and Leisure Authority (employing 26 students). Students may indicate a preference for the department they wish to work in and the type of work they want to undertake, which should be aligned to their degree subject and career aspirations. Applications are assessed on a first-come-first-served basis and, as such, student preferences cannot be guaranteed, although every effort will be made to ensure a suitable placement.
Application Forms may be obtained from the Human Resources Department, 82-86 Harbour’s Walk, New Harbours, Rosia Road, Gibraltar and on the Government of Gibraltar website at www.gibraltar.gov.gi and should be submitted to the Human Resources Department at the above address or via email to [email protected].
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Joseph Garcia, said: ‘This Government is always happy to support Gibraltar’s students, and we are rightly proud of their achievements year-round. We are pleased to be able to offer these summer-job opportunities, which not only ensure a productive summer break but also provide students with the practical experience they may need to help them develop their skills and give them a first step to long and successful careers. We strongly encourage interested students to enrol in the summer-job scheme.’
