May 14 – Gibraltar Cultural Services Launches New Website

Gibraltar Cultural Services, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, have launched a new website (www.culture.gi) keeping in line with the Government’s manifesto commitment to provide a user-friendly E-Government service. The website will support as much interaction as possible between the community and the department and will also keep in line with technological advancements.

The website includes all events and facilities that are run by Gibraltar Cultural Services for the Government. It will promote, encourage and foster the arts and cultural activities locally as well as serve to export our culture abroad. The website includes a Home Page with icons, a calendar of events, cultural news, event photographs, the cultural venues that fall under the management of GCS as well as an extended list of cultural organisations. The website also has a special ‘Art Heritage’ feature that provides biographies and sample of artworks pertaining to renowned late artists in our community.

Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Cultural Services, Yvette Zarb said:

‘Our intention is to have a website that reflects our work and our artistic character. We did not want it to be a website with a corporate image as we need to represent the cultural haven and cultural hub that exists in Gibraltar. For this we have taken a modern and creative approach to the site, its content and its structure.’

The website will serve as an a portal that will support all Government-run cultural activities or events, as well as those that have Government support or funding through its organised festivals. The website will also have a direct link to the www.visitgibraltar.gi website, in addition to the Facebook and Twitter pages for Gibraltar Cultural Services.

The Minister for Culture, Steven Linares, said:

‘The website is now a reality. It will make life easier for Gibraltar citizens and it will also enable staff at GCS to process data for grants, facilities, and all the other services provided. It will also serve as a direct link to our visitors from abroad who may want to find out what cultural, social and leisure events we have throughout the year. The website is in line with Government’s E-policy and I am certain it shall be a great communication tool for all.’
