Dec 04 - Hockey Umpire Nathan Stagno Awarded Golden Whistle
The Government says it is delighted by the news that Gibraltarian Hockey Umpire Nathan Stagno has been presented with his golden whistle.
The award was presented at last night’s match between Australia and Germany on Day Six of the Hero Hockey League World Final at the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel International Hockey Stadium in Raipur, India, by the International Hockey Federation President Leandro Negre.
Nathan has also been appointed to officiate at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which will be his last international match before his retirement.
Minister for Sport, Steven Linares, said: “The golden whistle is presented to umpires who have officiated in 100 International matches which in itself is a magnificent achievement and a reflection of Nathan’s inspired career. That the golden whistle was presented to Nathan by the International Hockey Federation President shows just how prestigious this award is. This is a fantastic achievement for Nathan, the Gibraltar Hockey Association and for Gibraltar as a whole.”
