Jul 22 - Stay And Play Programme For Children With Special Educational Needs

The Stay and Play Programme for children with special educational needs which runs as part of the Summer Sports and Leisure Programme started on Thursday 14th July attracting record numbers of children and young people.

The programme is run from the Bayside Boathouse Activity Centre with activities also taking place in other facilities at the Bayside Sports Centre, GSLA pools, Kings Bastion Leisure Centre and the Commonwealth Park.

The overall programme includes a diverse range of sport, recreational, leisure, arts and learning opportunities led by an incredibly committed team of Leaders and Volunteers. The programme structure includes sports and recreational activities with Sports Train and Children’s Corner on Mondays, parallel sporting activities, movement and music and yoga on Thursdays, swimming on Tuesdays, visits to a variety of Gibraltar’s leisure attractions on Wednesdays and gymnastic movement, soft play, arts and water play on Fridays. It is a fantastic programme that offers learning, enjoyment, social interaction and fun.

This week, the first week of the Stay and Play Programme saw the children taking part in water skills activity sessions at the GSLA Accessible Pool, a variety of sporting activities as part of Sports Train and Children’s Corner and visiting the Leisure Centre to play ten pin bowling and arcade games. The children and young people have also tried yoga, movement to music, storytelling and have started the process of decorating their activity centre to mark this year’s summer fun. Much more will be on offer over the next five weeks with the finale including a disco party, water and sports festivals and the opportunity for many to be part of their photo booth experience.
