Sep 12 - GFA Thanks Team For “Tremendous Performance” At First FIFA Match

The GFA has congratulated the national side for its historic first World Cup qualifying game, played in Faro last Tuesday night. The GFA says that the team “once again did us proud.”

A spokesperson continued: “Except for those crazy 5 minutes at the very end of the first half, the result does not reflect the tremendous performance by our players. We scored our first World Cup goal in our very first match, and what a goal it was. The scorer, Liam Walker, was awarded the “Player of the Day Award” by FIFA. Great moments indeed. Our most heartfelt congratulations to all the players and the technical team.”

The GFA says it is working closely with the Gibraltar Government, as well as with FIFA and UEFA, to bring these games home, even before the new national stadium is built adding that this is essential.

“We are working tirelessly toward making our next home game (against Belgium on 10 October 2016) our last home game to be played in foreign soil,” said a spokesperson.

The GFA will issue further information on the venue for the home matches against Cyprus, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Estonia in due course.
