Apr 25 - Gibraltar Cricket Board Welcomes Europa Oval Announcement
The Gibraltar Cricket Board has welcomed the statement by the Government of Gibraltar in connection with the proposed redevelopment of the Europa Oval into a state of the art sporting facility.
A spokesman for the Gibraltar Cricket Board said: "We have engaged extensively with the Minister for Sport on the project to ensure that cricket’s requirements are met, of which the principal issue is compliance with the playing conditions criteria imposed by the International Cricket Council.
"The Gibraltar Cricket Board wishes to stress that such compliance is key to the future of the sport locally in order to retain Gibraltar’s Associate Member status within the International Cricket Council alongside other nations such as Ireland and Scotland.
"It would appear, at this preliminary stage, that the Gibraltar Cricket Board’s requirements will be met. However, until this is guaranteed, the Gibraltar Cricket Board cautiously welcomes the project as outlined."
