Aug 21 - Minister Linares “Reassures The Gibraltar Netball Association”

The Minister for Sport, Steven Linares, has met with the Gibraltar Netball Association (GNA) representatives to “allay their fears” and reiterate the Government’s commitment to the long-term future of the sport.

This follows recent press releases regarding the GNA’s apprehensions concerning the Government’s new sports projects and the association’s long term and international development.

Minister Linares said: “Gibraltar, through the efforts of the GNA and its hard working committee, is held in high regard within Netball Europe and the International Netball Federation and HMGoG are only interested in enhancing rather than jeopardising this reputation. I have met with members of the committee and reassured them again that the GNA will be able to continue to apply for and hopefully host more International calibre events whilst continuing its impressive local development.”

In addition, a GNA representative added that: “Following a very positive meeting with the Minister for Sport we are now happy with the reassurances given that the GNA’s international standing will not be jeopardised and will in fact be enhanced by the time the project is completed. We have worked very hard to create an excellent reputation, both locally and internationally, and we are extremely pleased to receive confirmation from HMGoG via the Minister for Sport that this is recognised and factored in to any planning.”
