This weekend Gibraltar’s Eastern Beach will play host to the gripping opening of the ThunderCat Racing British National Championship Rounds 1 & 2. The sport, not widely known yet, involves lightweight catamarans that course through the sea spray at 65 mph.

The weekend long event will make up the Gibraltar Grand Prix between Friday 5^th April and Sunday 7^th. Amongst the competitors heading to Gibraltar to participate are world surf champions, students and all around adrenaline junkies.

Commenting on the event, the UK’s Events Coordinator James Tapp noted that Gibraltar will form part of the build-up to the World Championship which is set to take place in the UK in October.

The event promises a massively exciting weekend that will include shoreline stands, refreshments and opening and closing events. The public is invited to watch the race free of charge, and considering the vessels are particularly fond of veering close to the shore, spectators will certainly be in for a bumpy ride.
