Nov 14 - High Morale Within GFA Futsal Team as They Head Off to Poland

futsalThis morning the GFA Futsal National ‘A’ Team set off for Poland to participate in their second tournament since joining UEFA. The Friendly Four Nations Tournament will see them play Poland this Saturday, Belarus on Sunday and Turkey next Tuesday. Kick off times are set for 7pm, 4:30pm and 3:30pm.

Speaking to YGTV as the team gathered at the Gibraltar International Airport this morning, Head Coach Mario Prescott explained that the team was relatively new, with most of the players coming from 11 a side football teams. The two remaining players from the earlier futsal team that played in France earlier this year are Jansen Prescott and Joseph Chipol. Mario insisted that this is the first time many of the players are playing futsal. ‘They’re going to learn a lot there. These three teams are of a very high standard’.

His aim from this tournament is to develop the team and help them gain experience for the UEFA qualifiers in 2015, for the European Cup in 2016. Commenting on the chance from 11 a side football to futsal, Mario explained that in futsal there’s a lot more control with the flat of foot, which took some time for the players to get used to. He noted that the team has progressed well through a great deal of training.

With regards to how he thinks the team will rank, Mario said that it is going to be very difficult to beat the teams, but he aims to play his defensive side well.
