Apr 09 - GFA Issues Clarification On “Site Investigations” At Europa Point

dpcFollowing yesterday’s DPC meeting, and the numerous articles in the local media today, the GFA has said it would like to clarify the position regarding "unauthorised work" being carried out on the site of the proposed Europa Point Stadium.

The Town Planner ordered the GFA to "stop unauthorised work" at the Europa Point site "conducting site investigations.......without the correct permissions to do so".

The GFA would like to clarify that carrying out site surveys and investigations does not normally require permits of any sort from the planning authorities.  The GFA argues that the DPC and site investigations are two unrelated matters and the latter does not require the permission from the former, and “should not be confused.”

The Town Planner has verbally confirmed to the GFA that no permit is required after the DPC meeting and simply requested that in relation to this particular project, due to the public interest it is receiving, that he be notified as a matter of courtesy.  The GFA says it has satisfied this request.

The GFA would like to confirm to the general public that site investigation and surveys are currently being carried out on the Europa Cricket ground site.  This information is required for the Environmental Impact Assessment and the design of the stadium.  The GFA says it has permission to enter the site from the Gibraltar Sports and Leisure Authority and is fully coordinating the survey work with Gibraltar Cricket in order to avoid any disruption to cricket activities.
