Aug 04 - Under-8s Non-Swimmers At GSLA Small Pool

The GSLA Summer Sports & Leisure Programme sponsored by NatWest was in full swing down at the GSLA pool today. Swimming courses aimed at non-swimmers between the ages of 4 and 8 were led by Damina Chang-Chipolina and her helpers, Kaylan Payas, Nicholas Massa and Aiden Carroll. These teaching clinics are aimed at improving water confidence, as well as learning the basics of different swimming techniques.

The teaching clinic ran from 9:00am to 9:45am at the GSLA small pool. The session began with children participating in a short relay where they had to run through the shallow end of the pool to develop an understanding of water resistance. Following this the children were taught to move through the pool using basic elements of swimming techniques such as the front crawl, with flotation devices and the helpers present to keep them afloat.

The Under-8s Non-Swimmers Teaching Clinics are an ongoing part of the GSLA Summer Sports & Leisure Programme and will continue running throughout the summer until the week beginning 15th August.
