Oct 13 - Lineker Tweet Pours Scorn On Gibraltar And Other Small Teams
Retired England striker and BBC football pundit Gary Lineker has described small European national teams like Gibraltar and San Marino as being “not much more than pub teams.”
The 53-year old tweeted several times following England’s 5-0 thrashing of San Marino and Gibraltar’s 7-0 loss to the Republic of Ireland. Lineker, who has presented the BBC’s Match of the Day since 1999, posted on the social networking site that some international games were “silly” and that San Marino, after 60 straight defeats, “need a change of form” adding that a game against such a weak opposition wasn’t “remotely interesting.”
