The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).
Famed Spanish pop singer, Maika Barbero, who previously performed at the Miss Gibraltar 2013 pageant, will return to Gibraltar on 24th January 2014 for a live concert with her band. Maika rose to fame in last year’s edition of Spanish talent show ‘La Voz’, and reached the final four contestants.
The performance will be part of her 2014 tour, presenting her debut album ‘No Return’. The record is made up of eleven original ‘pop-rock’ tracks. Nine of Maika’s singles are written and performed in english.
The trial of Peter Lugnani, who is charged with five counts of rape, started this morning in the Supreme Court. Lugnani pleaded not guilty to all charges against him and will have the case heard by a jury before Puisne Judge Justice Barrington Black. The defendant is being represented by John Causer and Patrick Canessa, with Karl Tonna and Robert Fischel QC appearing for the Crown.
