May 15 - Government and Opposition Clash on Schengen Consultation

newsReferring to the Chief Minister’s recent announcement that the Gibraltar Government will embark on a public consultation exercise on whether Gibraltar should join the Schengen Agreement and the EU’s Common Customs Union, the Opposition has claimed that had they been consulted before the announcement, ‘the Chief Minister would have advised that there are other more important and pressing issues to consider’ than a bi-partisan approach to the matter.

May 15 - EU Commission Deadline for Frontier Improvements Expires Today

frontierAccording to the Gibraltar Government, the six-month deadline set by the European Commission for the improvement of traffic flow at the border between Gibraltar and Spain has expired today. However, the delays at the border continue in both directions with no improvement.

The Government has commented that whilst they have almost completed the work on the recommendations made to it by the European Commission, the Spanish Government has barely started, with only a leaked blue print for reformed works revealed by the Spanish press.
