Two Men Charged Following Serious Assault On Off-Duty RGP Officer

Two local men appeared before the Magistrates’ Court this morning, facing charges related to a serious assault on an off-duty RGP officer.
A statement from the RGP follows below:
20-year-old Marcus AGUILERA, of Willis’ House, has been charged with the following offences:
• One count of Causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent.
• Possession of a Controlled Class B Drug (Cannabis Resin).
22-year-old Jothan SARDEÑA, of Sir William Jackson Grove, has been charged with the following offences:
• One count of Causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent.
• One count of Possession of a Controlled Class B Drug (Cannabis Resin).
Both men were arrested by RGP Response Team officers following a serious assault upon an off-Duty RGP officer in the area of Ocean Village on Saturday 4th October 2025, resulting in the officer sustaining multiple lacerations and bruising due to having been punched, kicked and having his head stamped on repeatedly.
The subsequent investigation conducted by detectives from the RGP’s Criminal Investigation Department culminated with both men being charged yesterday evening.
Commissioner of Police Owain Richards said “Although not on duty at the time, the officer identified himself as a Police Officer in an effort to de-escalate a situation and protect those present. To then be subjected to a serious assault for taking professional action is wholly unacceptable. Any assault on an officer whether on or off duty is an attack on the rule of law and will be treated with the utmost seriousness. I remain steadfast in my commitment to supporting our officers and ensuring that those who choose to use violence against them are brought before the courts.”
Chairman of the Gibraltar Police Federation, Calum Bruce said: “Following the charging of these individuals, and if found guilty, then a clear message must be sent out, that protecting those who protect the rest of our law abiding community is of the utmost importance, and any vile actions that are perpetrated against them will be dealt with in the strongest fashion available to our justice system”
