Man Sentenced For Controlling And Coercive Behaviour

42 year old Nizar MAADOUMI, of John Mackintosh Square, appeared before the Supreme Court this week and was sentenced to imprisonment for two years and one month.
A statement from the RGP follows below:
MAADOUMI, who had previously pleaded guilty to one count of Controlling and Coercive Behaviour in an Intimate or Family Relationship, was arrested on the 11th November 2024, and was subsequently charged with the offence following an investigation by detectives form the RGP’s Safeguarding Team.
This sentencing is the first of its kind in Gibraltar for this offence following the enactment of the Domestic Abuse Act 2023.
We continue to encourage any victim of domestic abuse, or indeed anyone aware of someone who may be experiencing any form of domestic abuse, to report the matter to us. The RGP is committed to safeguarding vulnerable people and reducing harm, where necessary working alongside various key partners.
Our officers, including specialist investigators, will listen to and support victims, and act by bringing perpetrators to justice.
