Jul 23 - RGP Seize Over 100,000 Cigarettes
In a further attempt to clamp down on tobacco smuggling the RGP has recently carried out a number of separate operations. In the first case a 20 year old resident of La Linea was arrested in the area of Devil’s Tower Road and 7600 cigarettes were seized.
The second arrest involved a 55-year-old resident of La Linea who was found to be in possession of 2800 cigarettes. Both men are currently on police bail.
In the third operation three Spanish nationals, were arrested by officers in the area of Eastern Beach after 9 boxes of tobacco were seized. Ricardo Diaz Cruz aged 27 years, Carlos Carbrera Hererera aged 30 years and Jose Romero Fierro aged 20 years, all resident in La Linea, were jointly charged on one count of being in possession of 50,000 cigarettes, another count of being in possession of 40,000 cigarettes and for one count of being Knowingly Concerned in the attempted exportation of a commercial quantity of cigarettes without the authority of an Export Permit, namely 90,000 cigarettes.
All three men have been bailed out and are due to appear in the Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
