Temporary Closure of the Tower of Homage for Major Conservation and Interpretation Works

The Ministry of Heritage wishes to inform the public that the Tower of Homage will be closed to visitors from Monday 19th May to Sunday 27th July 2025 to allow for a comprehensive programme of conservation and interpretation works.
The scope of works is as follows:
First Floor – Conservation and Interpretation
- Conservation of ceiling and wall surfaces
- Removal of the timber raised floor
- Conservation of the original historic floor beneath
- Inspection and protective enclosure of the historic well
- Installation of a Corten steel frame and structural glass enclosure over the well
- Replacement of windows, terrace door, and main access door
- Fit-out of new interpretive materials, including lighting, visual displays, and audio content
- Installation of all required cabling and containment infrastructure
Main Tower and Roof – Structural and Access Improvements
- Installation of steel landing and balustrades
- Erection of scaffolding for access to elevated areas
- Conservation of wall surfaces and the historic light stack
- Repair of timber balustrade
- Roof waterproofing and associated works
- Painting of staircases as required
- Installation of warm lighting and audio interpretation system
A statement ended: "These works reflect HM Government of Gibraltar’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding Gibraltar’s heritage and delivering an enhanced visitor experience. The public’s continued patience and support are greatly appreciated."
