Jun 23 - Feast Of World Music At St. Michael’s Cave
The Gibraltar World Music Festival, with the theme ‘Chindia’, held its third edition with the famous composer and producer Nitin Sawhney who performed at St Michael’s Cave featuring guest performances from the extensive vocal talents of Nicki Wells and percussion skills of tabla maestro Aref Durvesh.
Before his concert, the audience had the opportunity to have a taste of oriental ancient music with the performance of Guo Gan and Mieko Miyazaki. This duo was founded in France with the meeting of two professional musicians (one from Japan, the other one from China) who would never have crossed paths had they remained in their native Far East.
Between them, the Israeli percussionist Itamar Doari, together with Tomer Moked, made a bridge linking both styles of music with an intimate show.
The Festival's program of World Music, art and culture was shared thanks to the patronage of the Chief Minister and the support of the Government of Gibraltar, The Bonita Trust, SG Hambros, Hyperion Group of Companies, Margaux Philanthropy, BIH, Hassans, Deloitte, Matanel, Famous for Media and Instituto Cervantes in Gibraltar.
The Gibraltar World Music Festival started its first edition with the Sephardic Divas in 2012, the biggest Sephardic event ever produced in the world. The second edition in 2013 was focused on Minor Asia and called Passage to Asia with 70 artists involved from Israel, Iran, Greece, and Turkey.
