Reopening Of Mediterranean Steps At The Gibraltar Nature Reserve

Mediterranean Steps will reopen to the public today at 12:00 noon, following the completion of essential safety works undertaken after the recent rock fall.

A statement from the Government follows below:

The Gibraltar Nature Reserve is pleased to announce that the Mediterranean Steps will reopen to the public today at 12:00 noon, following the completion of essential safety works undertaken after the recent rock fall.

Following a comprehensive assessment of the affected area, the access route has been made safe for public use. The pathway has been fully cleared of debris, temporary protective fencing has been installed at the affected location, and all necessary measures have been implemented to allow visitors to use the route safely.

As part of the ongoing recovery works, permanent repairs to the retaining wall will commence as soon as practicable. These works will be carefully planned to minimise any disruption to members of the public, with every effort being made to maintain safe access along the Mediterranean Steps throughout the repair period wherever possible.

The temporary safety measures currently in place will remain until the permanent remedial works have been completed. Visitors are kindly requested to exercise caution, follow all signage and instructions on site, and respect any temporary restrictions that may be necessary while works are underway.

The Upper Rock Nature Reserve would like to thank the public for their patience, understanding, and cooperation during the temporary closure. The safety of residents and visitors remains our highest priority, and we appreciate the support shown while these essential precautionary measures were carried out.
