Sep 04 - Jonathan Huart Takes Top Prize In Fine Arts National Week Competition
The results of the first ever National Week art competition hosted by the Gibraltar Fine Arts Association were announced yesterday evening at the Casemates vaults.
Jonathan Huart (pictured, left) clinched the first prize of £300 for his piece “The Captain’s Wife.” The second prize of £200 was awarded to Mario Finlayson for his work “The Cathedral” with the third prize of £100 going to Leslie Gaduzo for “Main Street View South.”
The Minister for Culture, Steven Linares, said: “I hope this competition will continue for many years to come. It puts Gibraltar on the map and on the wall and I invite artists from abroad to contribute in the future.”
Paul Cosquieri, the President of the Fine Arts Association, said: “It was so obvious that we should have an exhibition celebrating Gibraltar that we almost didn’t recognize what a good idea it would be.”
Mr Cosquieri thanked an anonymous and “very generous” sponsor who had donated money to make the exhibition possible and the curator of the exhibition Gino Sanguinetti.
Jonathan Huart, “The Captain’s Wife” – 1st Prize
Mario Finlayson, “The Cathedral” – 2nd Prize
