May 07 - Former Gib Singer Performs on The Voice

georgia thursting19-Year-old Georgia Thursting began performing live at Gibraltar’s Rock on the Rock club when she was 13, she now studies at Leeds College of Music after taking a year out in London to pursue her music career.

Georgia was scouted to perform on the popular national UK talent show, The Voice UK, last September, after her sister posted one of her videos on Facebook. Commenting on the show Georgia noted that she had always been sceptical about talent shows, but thought she might as well take up the opportunity.

May 03 - Significant Progress for the Gibraltar International Literary Festival

literary festival Arrangements are progressing apace for the Gibraltar International Literary Festival, sponsored by Gibunco, which promises to be one of the cultural highlights of the year. The Festival will take place from 25th to 27th October 2013.

The event will bring together around eighty world-class speakers who will take part in talks, discussions and debates on a variety of topics ranging from children’s books to crime writing, history and cuisine.

textThe Urban Dance Annual show will take place on Friday 17th May at the John Mackintosh Hall starting at 7.30pm.

Urban Dance is back at the John Mackintosh Hall, after 8 years staging their performances at the Alameda Theatre. They want to go back to their roots & bring to the audience an integrated performance, of music, dance, singing & audio visuals. They were the pioneers in Gibraltar to use audio visuals in their shows, back in 1999.

Apr 29 - Museum Lectures Begin This Week

museumThe present series of museum lectures, on the history of Gibraltar, opens on Tuesday 30th April at 7pm at the John Mackintosh Hall. The series explores the history of Gibraltar in five parts.

The first lecture will be given by Professor Clive Finlayson with the title “The History of Gibraltar in Five Parts: Part One – History of a Beacon”. Professor Finlayson will take listeners through a journey in time, exploring the attraction that the Rock of Gibraltar has had to people through the ages. From Neanderthals, through the classical period and the Pillars of Hercules, past Jbel Tarik the talk will consider the impact of the Rock in defining an identity, culminating with the way in which Gibraltarians related to the Rock during the evacuation, the closed frontier years and today.
