World Book Day will once again be held on Thursday 6th March 2014 at the John Mackintosh Hall. The event will see another popular Book Crossing and Book Fair as from 10am, in the Lower Exhibition Room. Book crossing allows individuals to bring a selection of their own books, and then take others home, free of charge.
In an effort to continue to promote Gibraltar’s tourist market in the UK, the Tourist Board and Minister Costa took part in two successful travel trade road shows in Birmingham’s Crowne Plaza and London’s Waldorf Hilton last week. The delegation for the road shows also included the Bland Group/ Rock Hotel, MH Bland, Classic Collection Holidays, Cresta Cities, Dive Charters, the Gibraltar Taxi Association, Parodytur, British Airways, Your Flight, Superbreak, Dive Charters and Monarch Airlines.
Following an extremely successful Annual General Meeting late last month, the GSD has appointed Mr. Trevor Hammond as the party’s Executive Chairman. The new Committee, of which half were elected via a secret ballot during the AGM, met for the first time at Party Headquarters recently.
During the early hours of Sunday morning, two local men were arrested by RGP Officers following a search carried out in Queensway that revealed 70,000 cigarettes of various brands stashed within the vehicle.
Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Joseph Garcia, will pay a visit to both the European Parliament and the European Commission over the next few days. They will hold meetings with British MEPs of all parties and with officials of Commission departments such as Internal Market, Economic & Monetary Affairs, Environment and Transport & Tourism.
Gibraltar will be hit by strong winds on Sunday evening according to recent weather reports. According to accuweather.com, Sunday night will be “breezy with rain” with strong Westerly gusts of up to 74 km/h (40 knots).
