Jul 05 - Albert Isola Sworn in as a Government Minister
This morning at 10am, newly elected member of Parliament and former GSLP candidate in yesterday’s By-Election Albert Isola was sword into his new position as MP and Minister for the GSLP Alliance Government.
Commenting on the success of polling Day, His Excellency the Governor claimed, ‘the election process worked immaculately, if I may say so. The returning officer reported it to me this morning that the election was duly executed. I think Gibraltar should be very proud of that electoral process and would offer my thanks and pay tribute to Melvyn Farrell the Returning Officer and all his flanks of volunteers who did so well yesterday.’
His Excellency insisted that the only thing that struck him about this By-Election was the fact that there were four candidates, which meant there was a debate and a choice for people. ‘That’s important in democracy too,’ he added. The Governor then paid tribute to all four of the candidates for their efforts.
Mr. Isola then pledged his allegiance to the Queen and the people of Gibraltar, as a Government minister. Speaking to YGTV during the Count last night, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo explained that Mr. Isola’s ministerial portfolio would be announced on Monday. A Cabinet shuffle is expected.
