Jul 24 - Spain’s Partido Andalucista Criticises Landaluce’s Fishing Dispute Claim
Spain’s Partido Andalucista has today insisted that relations between Gibraltar and Spain are at their worst. Spanish media reports note that Algeciras councilman and provincial deputy secretary of the party, Jose Maria Espana blames the on-going dispute on the bipartisanship attitudes of both the Partido Popular and the PSOE.
He also notes Algeciras Mayor Jose Ignacio Landaluce’s recent comments blaming the fishing dispute on former Spanish Minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos’ visit to the Rock in 2009.
Sr. Espana claims that dispute the fact that his party agrees with many of Sr. Landaluce’s criticisms, they do not fault the former Minister for the eruption of the fishing dispute. He calls upon the Spanish government to form a single foreign policy that will help defend the interest of the Campo de Gibraltar.
In his criticism of Sr. Moratinos' visit, Sr. Landaluce insisted that it was the most awkward and disruptive gesture to the interests of Spain. He added that if the visit hadn’t taken place Gibraltar would not have ‘dared to harass, denounce and try to stop the Spanish fishermen fishing.’
Sr. Landaluce went on to claim that the Spanish Government’s biggest worry is Gibraltar’s abuse of the fishermen.
