Aug 10 - Gibraltar’s New Movement Condemns “Outrageous” Spanish Air And Sea Incursions

10 August 2015

Gibraltar’s New Movement says it condemns what it describes as the “outrageous” Spanish air and sea incursions over the weekend. The pressure group says it would like answers as to why the Spanish Government and the Spanish authorities fail to inform the Gibraltar authorities and proceed to take executive action within BGTW.

The group says that only last week the SVA (Spanish Customs) entered BGTW and exerted jurisdiction and control over a local pleasure boat well within the bathing area at Camp Bay putting bathers’ lives at risk.

The group says that this has now happened again over the weekend but, instead, Gibraltar’s airspace has been violated twice.

A statement continued: “The SVA Helicopter was seen to be so close also that it was virtually meters off the shoreline. This is outrageous and instead of cooperating with our authorities they have disregarded and disrespected our sovereign state and all we see is verbal nonsense to Madrid by the British Government.

“When is the FCO going to wake up and act accordingly? Instead of complaints we want action before its too late and a fatality arises due to lack of action...

“We, Gibraltar’s New Movement, want more actions and less words from FCO and for them to take legal proceedings to the high courts for violating the United Nations Charter, also to beef up the Naval presence in Gibraltar to ensure that its security in BGTW is not violated further.”
