The Cross-Frontier Group has said that, instead of solving the problems of cross border workers, tourists and others that cross the border, the recently installed document control system, also referred to as the “intelligent border”, has had “the complete opposite effect.”
The Government has announced that it has today issued a Command Paper proposing to introduce a Financial Services Ombudsman to Gibraltar. The introduction of the Ombudsman was a manifesto commitment which will be met with the introduction of this legislation.
The GSD has said that the latest statement from the Chief Minister that the site now chosen by the Government to locate the LNG bunkering storage tanks will mean that no potential escape of LNG will reach residential areas “is nonsensical”. The Opposition argues that it is a statement made “without the benefit of an expert report” and follows “similar categorical assurances” in the past that these facilities are 100% safe when, according to the party, “as a matter of common sense it is obvious no one can guarantee that an accident will never occur.”
The SHSG (Secular Humanist Society Gibraltar) says it welcomes the statement made by the Chief Minister on the matter of same sex marriage. The group says it is in no doubt as to the “sincerity and personal conviction of Fabian Picardo who has expressed his personal feelings on the issue on more than one occasion.”
