RGP Commissioner At Conference In USA

The Commissioner of the Royal Gibraltar Police delivered a speech on gender balance in senior policing in the United States at the weekend.
A statement from the RGP follows below:
Richard Ullger joined dozens of officers for the International Association of Chiefs of Police for their annual conference in Boston.
He took part in a debate titled ‘Shattering the Glass Ceiling – Unleashing the Power of Gender Balance in Senior Policing Roles in the British Overseas Territories.’
The debate focused on the negative culture in policing towards women over the years and how through better leadership, organisations such as the RGP are beginning to embrace the positive and diverse difference women bring to policing.
Commissioner Ullger explained: “This was an excellent opportunity to showcase the progress the RGP have made over the years. Our Women in Policing Forum has had a huge impact and a new HeForShe commitment that we’ve signed up to is encouraging male officers to be more supportive of their female colleagues.”
He added that although there has been good progress over the past five years with 20 per cent of the RGP’s Inspectors now female, more still needs to be done to be done.
Also at the conference were members of the College of Policing, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and Commissioner Mark Collins from the British Virgin Islands Police.
