GMWS Welcomes Community Mental Health Hub Announcement

The Gibraltar Mental Welfare Society has welcomed the announcement by Minister Arias-Vasquez of the new premises for the mental health community hub.
A statement continued: “This is a project which has been long awaited, both by staff and service users alike, since Coaling Island became unfit for purpose years ago.
“As the Minister has reiterated herself, the building, though crucial, is not the most important factor in the new mental health model which the Government intends to deliver. Instead, the priority has to be the rolling out of a robust, easy to access service, which will provide all service users with the seamless, sustained support that they need.
“Having said this, the GMWS believes that having multiple mental health professionals under the same roof will facilitate a new model of care that will serve Gibraltar much more effectively. We hope that both longstanding service users, and those new to the system, will receive the coordinated, holistic support which they require. Something which has unfortunately not been the norm so far.”
