Unite The Union's International Workers’ Memorial Day Statement

Below follows Unite the Union's International Workers’ Memorial Day Statement:
On 28th April we will be marking International Workers’ Memorial Day, a day Unite the Union will be commemorating along with HMGOG at the Botanical Gardens on Tuesday 29th April at 10 a.m.
The ceremony will begin with speeches under the global theme “Remember the dead – Fight for the living.”
It will then be followed by Unite workplace representatives laying wreathes to pay respects to workers across the world who have lost their lives, followed by a moment of silence.
Unite the Union long campaigned for this day to be commemorated and enjoyed by all as a public holiday, whilst taking the opportunity to reflect on the stories of those that do not return home at the end of the working day.
The union believe it is essential that it continues as such, providing us with the focus and necessary impetus to continue improving health and safety in all workplaces.
International Workers’ Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and advocacy for workers’ rights and safety, a day to recognise the sacrifices made by workers and to continue the fight for better working conditions.
Unite the Union welcomes HMGOG’s continued commitment to both honouring those who have lost their lives and pushing forward the cause of workplace safety and invites employers across Gibraltar and the general public to come together to honour the past and work towards a safer, fairer future for all workers.
