University Of Cambridge Student Visit

Action for Housing says it recently met with Geography students from the University of Cambridge who visited Gibraltar in March to study the region’s economic and political geographies.
A statement from Action for Housing follows below:
At the end of March, twenty one Geography students from the University of Cambridge, accompanied by three lecturers, embarked on a residential fieldtrip to Gibraltar to study the region’s economic and political geographies. The group had the unique opportunity to explore the Rock both inside and out, with visits to the historic military tunnels, key heritage sites and some housing development sites. Contemporary socio- political issues were also a key focus of the trip with students having participated in a session with Action for Housing. Member John Calderon gave a presentation on current housing issues in Gibraltar such as the availability and access to social housing; the situation in the private rented sector; land reclamation for high-end developments, as well as discussing the group’s engagement with the government of the time. The students were then taken around Devil’s Tower Road and the Ocean Village area to show how the landscape has been transformed in the last 15 years.
