June 04 - Plater Youth Club Activities

plater youth A number of trainee volunteers from the Plater Youth Club, including Sandra Martinez and Carolina Llamusi-Silbermann, have recently completed a training programme and have since been carrying out workshops for youth club members, including a cooking and arts and crafts programme.

Another volunteer, namely Jasmin Young recently organised a visit to the Cat Welfare Society which proved to be a rewarding experience as the young people became familiar with all the great work that goes on at the cat shelter. Youth club youngsters also learnt about animal cruelty and how much time and effort goes into caring for stray, abandoned or sick cats.

Another set of trainee volunteers, Julian Cruz and Kristle Rawlinson have developed a session of enjoyable games in the patio for all of the youngsters.

The Club has recently been solidifying its links with the RGP. A drugs related talk was delivered at the club and the young people got the chance to see what ‘real’ illegal drugs look like and all the dangers they pose. A productive question and answer session followed the talk. After some positive feedback, another workshop is now being organised where some recovering addicts will talk to the group about their experiences.

Young people between the age of 11 and 18 are invited to join the club. They can get in contact with the Youth Service on 20075020.
