Oct 21 - Battle Of Trafalgar Act Of Remembrance
Marking the 208th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, the traditional Act of Remembrance was held in the Trafalgar Cemetery. Wreaths were placed on the graves of those who died as a result of the Battle by Commander Steve Thomas.
During the service, the Governor read Admiral Collingwood’s despatch which informed Gibraltar that ‘the Noble Commander-in-Chief’ had ‘died in the arms of Victory.’
This was followed by the preamble which was read by the Chief Minister and reminded everyone that ‘the Fleets of the Royal Navy have gathered at Gibraltar for over two centuries before sailing to face the dangers of the seas and the violence of the enemy.’
The Commander of British Forces then read the prayer written by Lord Nelson on the morning of the Battle of Trafalgar. Reverend Mark Jackson led the prayers before the Last Post and Reveille and the first verse of the National Anthem.
