Sep 04 - Appropriation Bill For University Of Gibraltar Announced
The Government has today published a Supplementary Appropriation Bill. The sole purpose of the Bill is to provide funding for the University of Gibraltar.
The Bill provides for £10 million of equity funding for The University of Gibraltar Limited, the company that will operate the University and which has already been incorporated.
The Government says that significant work has been carried out in the planning for the University with progress made on the drafting of legislation, identification of site and works required and the academic courses to be provided by the University. It continues to be the Government’s intention to have the University ready to be opened in September 2015.
The Government says it will be making a full announcement on the University very soon and will provide details of the plans for the University and the various schools or faculties which the University will contain.
A statement from Number 6 concluded: “The publication of the Supplementary Appropriation Bill today is an important step in the fulfillment by the Government of its manifesto commitment for Gibraltar to have its own University.”
