The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).
The Governor Sir James Dutton is pleased to announce that upon the recommendation of David Lidington, the Minister for Europe, Fabian Picardo, the Chief Minister has been advanced to the rank of Queen’s Counsel. The Minister for Education, Gilbert Licudi QC, is this week visiting Seychelles for discussions related to the establishment of the University of Gibraltar. Seychelles is a small jurisdiction which recently established their own university. Their programmes are run mostly in conjunction with major educational institutions such as the University of London.
