Jun 12 - Picardo Appointed Queen’s Counsel
The Governor Sir James Dutton is pleased to announce that upon the recommendation of David Lidington, the Minister for Europe, Fabian Picardo, the Chief Minister has been advanced to the rank of Queen’s Counsel. This appointment is in the nature of an honorary award and is in recognition of his distinguished role as an advocate for Gibraltar both internationally and domestically, and his commitment to the rule of law.
His Excellency is also pleased to announce that, acting upon the advice of the Queen’s Counsel Appointments Committee and in line with the guidelines for the appointment of Queen’s Counsel in Gibraltar, he is pleased to appoint to the rank of Queen’s Counsel: Peter Cecil Montegriffo, Lewis Edward Baglietto and John Ernest Restano
Sir James said “I would like to congratulate the individuals who have been recognised with the prestigious appointment to the rank of Queen’s Counsel. I am also grateful to the Appointments Committee for their time and expertise in consideration of the applications’.
The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Joseph Garcia and Ministers of Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar have sent their warmest congratulations to the Chief Minister, on his appointment.
The Ministers note with pride that this award is in recognition of the Chief Minister’s distinguished role as advocate for Gibraltar, both internationally and domestically and his and the Government’s commitment to the rule of law.
