The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).
As announced at last August’s commemoration of the birth of Sir Joshua Hassan, the Government of Gibraltar will soon issue a new polymer £100 banknote featuring an image of Sir Joshua Hassan. Not only will this be the first ever legal tender of £100 sterling banknote to be produced in polymer, it will also be Gibraltar's first sterling banknote to be produced in this material. The note will have a smoother feel than traditional banknote paper but it will be more durable and will stay cleaner for longer.
Now in its 8th year, the now infamous Ocean Village/RAOB Charity Cardboard Boat Race took place at Ocean Village Marina on Saturday at midday and with the temperature topping out at 32 degrees, many participants welcomed a refreshing dip in the marina waters when several of their cardboard boat creations, as expected, fell apart at the first hurdle.
Along with two members of staff from Gibraltar House in London, the reigning Miss Gibraltar, Kayley Mifsud, has parachuted from 15,000 feet in order to raise funds for the Calpe House Appeal.
