Jul 13 - Police Deploy Jet Ski
The RGP has deployed a Jet Ski as part of the marine assets that patrol Gibraltar’s beaches during the summer months. The move is in line with the RGP’s stated commitment to enforce the Seaside and Pleasure Boats Rules.
Whilst the Jet Ski’s design features afford it great speed and manoeuvrability, the main advantage of using this type of craft, and therefore the reason for its deployment, is the increased ability to interact with members of the public using similar craft. Its much smaller size is better suited to operating within the confines of the demarcated Unregulated Channels or amongst other vessels.
The RGP says that an additional benefit of this craft is that it enhances the level of initial response support it can provide to the Life Guard Service. Its speed, size and manoeuvrability allow it to respond faster, in more confined or shallow areas and approach persons in distress in the water more easily than the larger vessels.
