Nov 21 - Gibraltar National Team Heads Off For World Show Dance Championships In Germany

The Gibraltar National Dance Team is all set to participate at the 2016 World Show Dance Championships under the auspices of the Gibraltar National Dance Organisation (GNDO).

The event, that will be staged at the Erdgas Arena, in Riesa, Germany, will see 2,800 dancers from 26 countries taking part. Dancers will be travelling from five continents to join in this spectacular event organised by the International Dance Organisation (IDO).

The Gibraltar National Dance Organisation (GNDO) selected 19 dancers from various local dance groups to join the Gibraltar National Team.

They are:

Amy Guillem, Jyra Hendrick, Eva Guillem, Janella Johnson, Anna Jimenez, Amber Chichon, Siandayle Alman, Amy Avellano, Kayleigh Livingstone, Tracy Ward, Joelle Johnson, Chloe Hernandez, Janelle Alcantara, Jade Holman, Alexandra Ballantine, Louise Gonzalez, Alanna Bonavia, Jade Pau and Jenella Sodi.

Gibraltar will see these dancers represented in the Children, Junior and Adult divisions and in the Solo, Duet and Group sections. The National Team’s choreographers include: Lilian Montero, Gillaine Alman, Gerald Rodriguez, Jade Federico and Lauren Montero.

GNDO Vice President Wendy Garro said:

“The GNDO is always proud to be able to send dancers to the World Show Dance Championships, especially this year that this World event in Riesa is celebrating its 20th Anniversary.

“As statistics show, we will be competing at the Olympics of Dance were medals are hard to come by. However, we will aim to compete to the highest of standards against the best dancers from around the world and represent Gibraltar to the best of our ability.”

GNDO Vice-President Wendy Garro will be leading the National Team in Riesa, whilst GNDO President Seamus Byrne will be representing Gibraltar as an international adjudicator. The National Team left Gibraltar yesterday and will return on Sunday 28th November.
