A statement from the Government follows below:
Supporting young people to grow, lead and give back.
The Gibraltar Youth Service, on behalf of the Ministry of Youth, is proud to launch the Young Leaders Programme which will be open to all young people aged 14-17, including new members.
This initiative has been designed to support young people in building confidence, develop practical skills, and take a more active role in their communities. The concept grew organically from within the youth clubs, where existing members began showing a natural interest in helping run sessions. The programme built on that momentum, offering structure, training and support to any young person ready to step up, regardless of if already part of a youth club or looking to join for the first time.
Participants will begin with an 8-week training course covering leadership, communication, safeguarding, conflict resolution, and more. After training, they will volunteer at one of Gibraltar’s four youth clubs one evening a week for two months, gaining hands-on experience in a safe, supportive setting.
Young leaders will receive regular support from a licensed Youth Worker and a Certificate of Achievement recording their volunteer hours. The programme promotes responsibility, personal growth and teamwork - while also offering a stepping-stone into future volunteering or youth work roles.
Minister for Equality, Employment, Culture, Tourism and Youth, the Hon. Christian Santos GMD MP said; “The Young Leaders Programme is intended to teaching and developing skills such as responsibility and leadership which will be useful in their later lives and careers. My thanks to the Gibraltar Youth Service for launching this initiative which we anticipate will have an impact on the individuals, and a far-reaching effect in our community.”
