Jan 15 - Another Face and Body Painting Festival for Gibraltar

body painting Following last year’s massively successful Face and Body painting festival in Gibraltar, organisers, the Gibraltar Face and Body Paint Association made the decision to host yet another spectacular event, promising contests, workshops, demos and exhibitions by award winning artists and photographers.

The festival will be held from April 11th – 14th. Denver based body painter and fine arts gallery owner, Sophia Rose, of Xcentricity Body Painting will carry out a work shop on her most loved inspiration, Mexican sugar skulls. Sophia insists that Mexico is steeped in ‘tradition, culture an art’ and this is why she’s so drawn to the traditional design of the skulls, which are at the forefront of the Mexican holiday ‘ Dia de Los Muertos’. Sophia adds that the design can vary from sombre and simple to ‘bold and bright’. Tickets for the workshop cost £55.  It will be held on Saturday April 12th from 6pm – 11 pm.

Commenting on body painting as an art form, Sophia said that ‘Painting on the living canvas is the most fascinating medium I’ve ever explored. It is painting on living energy, personality and emotion. It is a medium rich in texture, curve and movement and from time to time it can even be ticklish.’ She is looking forward to holidaying in Gibraltar with her son Indigo and will form an integral part of the Gibraltar Face and Body Painting Festival.

Another successful face and body painter, Pashur, will return to this year’s festival to host a session on body painting lingerie. His worshop will be held on Friday 11th April 2014 from 6pm – 10pm, with limited tickets costing £75 each. Speaking on his style and focus, Pashur claims that he perfected his trade whilst body painting at the Playboy Mansion. He adds that lingerie body painting designs are some of the most requested both commercially and by individuals.

Pashur looks forward to returning to the Rock as it is a ‘very charming and relaxing place’. ‘The entire vibe of the city is wonderful,’ he adds.

Other workshops that will available during the festival include a step by step introduction to body painting by Atelier RomAndy and a UV body paint session with Liliana Hopman.
