Writing Workshops Looking Ahead to the Gibunco Gibraltar Literary Festival 2025

The Gibraltar National Book Council (GNBC) is supporting the organisers of the Gibunco Gibraltar Literary Festival with various writing workshops as part of its 2025 programme and initiatives. Workshops are being organised in June and October respectively.

The first workshop will be delivered by GNBC member and acclaimed writer Louis Emmitt- Stern. The event aims to offer emerging and established writers the opportunity to develop one of the most essential skills in storytelling dialogue. ‘Dialogue that Speaks Volumes: Writing Workshop’ will take place at BOOKgem on Thursday 12th June between 6-8pm.

A statement continued: “In this dynamic hands-on workshop, participants will explore ‘How and Why Characters Speak’. The session will explore the art of crafting authentic compelling dialogue that reveals character, drives narrative, and connects with audiences. From subtext and rhythm to voice and structure, writers will engage in practical exercises that span fiction, theatre and screenwriting, guided by Emmitt-Stern’s extensive experience and creative insight.

“Whether you're writing a novel, a play or a screenplay, learning how characters speak and why can make or break your story. This workshop will provide invaluable tools to enhance your craft, deepen your characters, and sharpen your storytelling.

“This workshop is part of the programme of writer development opportunities hosted by the Gibraltar National Book Council. Further workshops and initiatives will be announced throughout 2025, continuing the Council’s commitment to nurturing local talent and encouraging creative expression and opportunities.”
