Feb 14 - Gibraltar Finance Centre Exhibited at Captive Live UK Conference

finance centreThe Gibraltar Finance Centre recently attended and exhibited at the London based ‘Captive Live UK’ Conference, which concentrates on captive insurance companies. These include insurance companies established with the specific objective of insuring risks emanating from their parent group or groups.

The conference was held on the 12th and 13th of February and attended by over 500 delegates over the two days. The Finance Centre department was one of twenty exhibitors at this industry leading event. The group was represented by Mr. Michael Ashton, Mrs. Nyoka Catania and Mrs. Naduiska Segovia. Mr Ashton acted as a panel speaker at the session "What the domiciles are thinking".

Feb 14 - Customs Cigarette Seizure

customsCustoms Officers responded to an incident at British Lines Road in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A Spanish registered vehicle was seen travelling at speed in the area and officers of HM Customs gave pursuit. The vehicle’s driver was challenged when he was stopped in the HM Customs holding area and was arrested after a search of the car resulted in the detection of 15,000 cigarettes.

Feb 14 - Minister Sacramento Addresses Falklands Conference

sacramentoMinister for Social Services and Equality Samantha Sacramento yesterday delivered a speech at the 43rd British Islands and Mediterranean Region Annual Conference (BIMR) of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. The event is being hosted in the Falkland Islands and will end today.

Minister Sacramento gave the speech, entitled ‘The Right to Self Determination is not curtailed by Sovereignty Claims’ on behalf of the Chief Minister who was unable to attend the conference.

Feb 13 - Official RGP Update on Ronda Motorcycle Accident

rgpIt is with sadness that the Commissioner informs of the death of two serving police officers following a traffic accident on the Ronda to San Pedro Alcantara road in Spain shortly before 1pm today.

The officers who were off duty at the time were on a motorcycle and in the company of other off duty colleagues. The motorcycle they were riding collided with an oncoming lorry. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the incident by the Spanish authorities will now take place.

Feb 13 - King’s Chapel Hosts Lent Charity Lunches

chairty lunchAs per annual tradition, the King’s Chapel has teamed up with a number of other churches within Gibraltar’s Christian community, including St. Andrew’s, the local Methodist Church and the Cathedral of St. Mary the Crown, to host a series of lent charity lunches. The lunches will run every Wednesday for the next five weeks, with all funds raised being donated to Nazareth house who host a local outreach programme. Nazareth House organises regular lunches for the less fortunate individuals in our community.
