The Chief Minister will present a Motion at the next meeting of Parliament which seeks to confer the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour to United States Congressman George Holding.

Representative Holding played a key role in the tabling of a Resolution in the House of Representatives which supports the right of the people of Gibraltar to self-determination.

He was a member of the Congressional delegation that visited Gibraltar under the UK-US MECEA last year.

The Congressman is regarded as a friend of the United Kingdom and of Gibraltar. The Motion reads as follows:


“This House:

TAKES NOTE of the policy of the Government to raise the profile of Gibraltar among decision-makers in the United States of America;

CONSIDERS that the tabling of a Resolution in the US House of Representatives which supports the right of the people of Gibraltar to determine their own future is a positive development in line with that policy;

WELCOMES the leading role taken by Representative George Holding as the Sponsor of the Resolution and his support for Gibraltar;

HEREBY agrees to award the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour to Representative George Holding.”
